Logo Repair. Already have a logo and just need it cleaned up? Our repair & makeover service may be for you.

You’ve already got a nifty new corporate logo design. It’s a great reflection of your company, and it’s philosophies. The colors are perfect. The text is bang-on. Everything is perfect. But when you take your new logo to a printer, you’re told that it’s not in the correct file format. Or it’s the wrong resolution and you cannot change the image size without massive image degradation.

A wrong logo format can cost you (or your client). Big time...

It comes as a shock that your new logo design is in something called RGB format, and printing your new business cards is going to cost a fortune because you really need to use something called ‘four color process’ printing (rather than the much more economical spot-color reproduction) and you're missing an .EPS file that should be in vector based format. Your planned launch of your new corporate identity The Logo Factory 'house'is now in jeopardy. Not to worry. We'll repair your logo, creating all the file formats you’ll need – print, web, and electronic– and supply you with all the digital material you’ll need to effectively manage your new brand logo, consistently and economically. And you can accomplish this quickly without ever leaving your desk.

Why should you pay a graphic design firm (including ours) to create your logo from scratch, when it's already designed and you just need someone who knows what they're doing to create the correct file formats? At The Logo Factory you can select our Logo Repair service, where our top-shelf designers use their technical skills to copy business logos into a complete range of professionally formatted images ready to use in their correct formats. Without having to pay for the creative time required in our custom logo design packages. We offer three levels of service based on the kind of material you can supply us - be it digital or printed (sketches and/or doodles), how fast you need your logo repaired, and the variety of final file formats you require. All our Logo Repair packages will give you the print and web ready formats that you need to utilize your newly repaired logo on the widest range of media - from Flash Animation to Brochure Designs and Presentation Folders.

Your logo formats - what you'll need

Pixel and VectoryMeet Pixel and Vector.
In order to understand our logo repair service (and the effective use of your logo in general), we'll need to introduce you to the two different file formats that you'll need your logo to be available in.

Vector Based Formats.

The first, and most important format you'll need is a vector version, a file format that many of you may not be familiar with (though every logo you see will, or should, have started life as a vector). This is the default format of professional design software as well as the choice of format for most print applications. A Vector based image is the raw source file of your logo, created out of Vector based logo - closeupVector shapes, which can be filled with accurate color through the Pantone Matching System. Vector based images are the format for ALL logo design and logo repair projects at The Logo Factory. A Vector can be thought of as a shape made up of rubber bands that are wrapped around nails (vector points) pushed into a peg board. If the nails (or in this case points) are moved, the shape will change. This allows designers to be able to edit artwork. Vector files are also resolution independent, meaning that they can are scalable to any size. Vector based logo formats can be printed as Spot color (see illustration 1) OR Four color Process depending on your requirements and the number of colors in your logo. You can identity vector formats by their file extensions - .eps, .cdr (Corel Draw) and .ai (Adobe Illustrator). Other vector based formats can be tagged as .swf - a vector based Flash animation
.
Pixel Based Formats.
The second logo format is a pixel or 'raster' version - one that you're probably more familiar with. It is the default format of practically every image on the web, as well as the format used in your own digital images and those taken by your camera. A Pixel based image is made up from a grid of varying colored pixels that when viewed from a distance form the overall image details. Pixel based images Close up of a Pixel based logocan be CMYK or RGB color palettes. Pixel based images are resolution dependent and must be prepared specifically for the usage planned. A 72 dpi Pixel based image can be used in electronic media (web) while a 266 (or higher) dpi image is required for print. Due to the number of colors required to create images (even logos that appear to be spot color - see comparison of the same logo below) most Pixel based images will require Four color Process printing, rather than the much more economical (and accurate) Spot color printing. You can identify pixel based formats by the extensions .gif, .jpg, .tif and .ps (Adobe Photoshop). In order to maintain consistency in the use of your logo, these images are generally created from the vector version described above.

If you're serious about utilizing your logo in the most professional manner possible, you'll need a variety of pixel and vector versions. See here for more information on logo design file formats. See here for a glossary of design terms that are used throughout our Logo Repair section.

Logo Design Repair - The short version

If your new logo was created in a ‘paint program’ (i.e.: non-vector based) or in a word processing document chances are it’s in a 72 dpi (dots per inch) RGB (Red Green and Blue) Pixel based format. This format is ONLY usable in electronic reproduction on the web, though it CANNOT be animated into Flash Logos. It CANNOT be used to create stationery, business cards, signs or other forms of artwork. It cannot be printed (without massive loss of quality and unnecessary expense) using traditional methods and even logos that feature two colors require four-color process printing, when a properly formatted version of the same logo can utilize the much more economical spot color printing. Similarly, if your logo was sketched by hand (i.e.: the time honored ‘napkin doodle’) you’ll need to have digital files created before you can reproduce ANYTHING. Perhaps your logo was created years ago, and you've lost the original artwork, only having access to low resolution versions that suffer from the same restrictions as outlined above. What to do?

Your logo needs to be carefully cleaned up and converted into, at a minimum, these formats. In order to accomplish this, we need to create a Vector based version of your logo. That's the short version of our Logo Repair service. See here for a full description of how Logo Repair works.
