Logo Clean up - now you can repair those fuzzy, blurry images and correct logos in the wrong formats! We work from sketches too.
In order to use your business logo effectively, you need a set of professionally rendered and formatted files that will work on the web, in print and in multimedia. Our logo repair will help you accomplish that.
You may already have a logo, but need it converted to the correct file formats. Maybe cleaned up a little with a few modifications or upgrades. How about the time-honored 'napkin doodle' - the starting point for many a successful corporate identity design? As nice as it looks, any sketch still has to be converted into usable digital form, so that the integration of your new brand is hitch-free. The Logo Factory can repair any logo, generate ALL the necessary formats, supply all the technical information you'll need, and ship the entire package to you on your very own custom CD. At rates much less than starting from scratch. Our logo repair service usually takes 3 business days from submission, so you're sure to get your new corporate logo fast!
Vector Based Images - the Genesis of ANY Logo Repair project
Vector based images SHOULD be the starting point of any logo design project. These images are created by High-End Drawing software such as Adobe Illustrator, Macromedia Freehand and Corel Draw and are the industry standard for any graphic design project (The Logo Factory uses Adobe Illustrator for ALL our projects). What are Vector based images? Simply put, Vector images are incredibly small, scalable and editable images that allow designers unlimited freedom when it comes to logo design and illustration. Vector files usually feature the file extensions .EPS, .AI .CDR and .SWF (used in Flash animations). Trouble is, you may not have these formats available and will need to have them created.
As part of our Logo Repair package, we’ll take your ‘diamond in the rough’ design, manually clean it up using our Vector-based software (auto-trace software has unpredictable results) and create a Vector based source file.

Once we have this Vector based version of your logo, we can create any Pixel based image at any size and any resolution. Vector files can also be used for print (see here for appropriate formats), and set up for economical spot color printing. To complete your Logo repair project, our designers can then properly format color palettes for electronic and web use and create the previously listed Format Array (an Upgraded Format Array is also available for a nominal setup fee). How does our Logo Repair service work? Here's a look:

How The Logo Factory's Logo Repair service works.
A close up of a pixel based image. Note how the image becomes degraded when enlarged. Due to the number of colors required to form the image, changing the color globally is difficult. Localized color changes are, for all intents and purposes, impossible.
Illustration 1: If you only have access to a Pixel Based version of your logo, our reproduction choices are severely limited. We cannot enlarge the size of the logo or it will pixelate' -the actual pixels that make up the image will become visible. In real terms your logo will appear 'fuzzy' or out-of-focus. For all practical purposes we cannot change colors, nor can we adapt the logo for many usages (other than web usage or low-resolution printing). Animating Pixel Based artwork into Flash Logos is extremely difficult if not impossible (and our choices limited) as we cannot 'break' the logo into various components that we can move around individually.

In order to convert a low resolution version of your logo (or a scanned sketch) into an accurate Vector based image our designers need to 'trace' the entire image by hand using software like Adobe Illustrator. Each Vector corner or 'point' needs to be dropped in by hand.
Illustration 2: A Vector Based version of your logo would 'fix' all the previously mentioned usage problems. So, we'll have to create one, through a process that The Logo Factory has coined as logo repair. In order to create Vector Based versions of your logo, our designers literally have to 'trace' the artwork by hand, using vector based drawing software (Adobe Illustrator). There are automated solutions, but these are not adequate for truly professional results and even then, the artwork created requires extensive editing to remove redundant points and areas that have not converted correctly. Automated solutions also require a high-resolution (ie: higher than 72 DIP) pixel based image for even the most marginal results. In terms of logo repair pricing, it is the complexity of this 'tracing', and time required this is reflected in the pricing difference between our basic and complex packages.

Once we've finishing 'tracing' your new logo, we'll end up with artwork that consists of a series of Vector shapes. Each is independent of the other and your logo can be edited locally, or globally.
Illustration 3: Once our designers have finished hand-tracing your logo, we'll end up with a series of vector shapes that we can now edit together or individually. The logo can now be adapted to a wide variety of uses and applications.

Once we have our logo made up from Vectors we can change colors very easily. We can 'pour colors into each shape separately or into the logo as a whole. As the resolution of vector based images is, for all practical terms, unlimited, your logo can now be resized to any size and converted into any required resolution or format.
Illustration 4: Once we have a Vector Based version of your logo, we can 'pour' color into the various vector shapes. We can convert the logo for use in spot color reproduction. We can use the logo in 4 color process printing. The logo is now completely scalable, as Vector Based images have, for all intents and purposes, unlimited resolution. The process above also applies to a Logo Repair using client supplied sketches and/or 'doodles'.

Which should you choose - a Logo Design project, or a Logo Repair project? That all depends on the material you have for us to start with, as well as your expectations in terms of revisions, design exploration, etc. Here's a general overview of what kind of project is suitable for some common scenarios.
A Logo DESIGN project is appropriate when:
You only have a vague or general idea of what direction your logo should take and accordingly you want The Logo Factory design team to create several design proposals and concepts for your new design. A Logo Design project is also appropriate when you wish to 'explore' the design process with a variety of designs, styles and concepts to choose from. Generally speaking, if you do not have any material from which we can work from (sketches, doodles, digital file formats) and want to start 'from scratch', then a Logo Design project is the best choice. See here for more on our logo design process. Should you require any further information on any of our design services, feel free to contact us.
A Logo REPAIR project is appropriate when:
You already have some preliminary material for us to work from, or you already have a logo that requires some touch-up, cleanup or a name change. Keep in mind that Logo Repair Packages are limited in the number of revisions and design edits, so it's fairly important that your supplied material is consistent with the desired finished logo design. Under our Complex Repair we can also take your sketches and doodles and convert them into print and web ready artwork. Perfect for agencies and studios that have developed concepts and roughs, but don't have designer time to render final artwork. Here are some other scenarios where a Logo Repair Project is appropriate:
Formatting and Redesign.
If you already have a logo and wish to have it cleaned up, 'modernized', a name change added, or simply the proper file formats, then a Logo Repair should suffice. Under most cases, these kinds of alterations can be performed as part of a Basic Logo Repair.
Artwork Cleanup.
If you have low-resolution files of your logo and require high-resolution versions, or you wish to change colors or typography on an old printed version of your design, a Logo Repair is the correct choice for you.
Vector Redraw.
If you have a logo that is in a non-digital format (ie: sketches, illustration or as at left, watercolor) and need your logo to be scalable and adaptable to a wide range of media, you'll require a Logo Repair. In most cases, artwork like this requires a Complex Logo Repair.
Working from your sketches.
In some instances, clients may already have semi-final sketches of their logo ideas. If that's the case, The Logo Factory can 'render' these sketches into final logo artwork with appropriate typography and color schemes. We can then supply you with a full range pf professional file formats, suitable for every application. In most cases, this would require a Complex Logo Repair package. Please note - sketches must be fairly well 'developed' to qualify for a Logo Repair project. Should you require further clarification, please contact us.
Additional Notes about our Logo Repair Services.
1) Our Logo Repair Packages only include clean-up, rendering and formatting and do not include any design, preliminary design work or concepts. For a logo project requiring any of these design steps, please see one of our custom Logo Design Packages.
2) The Logo Factory reserves the right to determine if a Logo Repair project qualifies for either a Basic or Complex repair. For assistance on your particular project, please contact our client support. Too, The Logo Factory reserves the right to refuse any Logo Repair project if the source material (files, sketches and/or digital images) are not developed or rendered to a point that allows us to work from the submitted material.
3) Before engaging The Logo Factory for our Logo Repair services, you must warrant that you have the rights to the artwork being repaired, and that use of such work, to the best of your knowledge, does not infringe on the copyright of others. As the original artwork is supplied by the client, The Logo Factory does not claim, nor can we transfer, copyright of same for any artwork created during the performance of Logo Repair services. The Logo Factory reserves the right to refuse any Logo Repair project if we believe that said project infringes on the Copyright and/or Trademarks of other parties. See our terms and conditions for more information.
