Font logos - Zap Internet Image Processing.
Behind the Design Scenes: Funny story about this logo. It was 1996, and most people who had found the web were surfing around on breathtakingly slow dial up modems (2400k was not uncommon). Any graphics on a website were almost guaranteed to 'choke' the rudimentary browsers of the time (Netscape - remember them? - pretty well ruled the roost). This presented a huge problem for The Logo Factory, at that time a fledgling company setting up shop on the Internet. Naturally, we needed a website that was graphics intensive (how else to show off our corporate logo design skills?) but the bandwidth choking size of images was daunting. What to do? Well, we developed a step-and-repeat color removal system (using Photoshop and other similar logo software) that allowed us to shrink the size of images dramatically. It was so impressive, we branded the concept and called it image 'Zapping' (hey, don't laugh - it was cool at the time). So, naturally enough, we set out to create a logo that encapsulated this concept. Even called websites that had been developed with this process 'Zapsites'. All very cool and all. Until the major software developers came up with image-size reduction components for their software (enabling designers to reduce their images to 'index' color levels in one simple step). This rendered our entire 'Zapping' concept moot, and our nifty little concept was left on the 'cutting room floor'. Ah well. For a similarly themed corporate logo (with a similar fate) see Photo FX Image Effects a few pages down.
