Behind the Design Scenes: Even though The Logo Factory - over the years - has developed a knack for illustrative logos (see here for anatomy of an illustrative logo design), sometimes a logo is a little heavy on the illustration, even for us (at least, that's how we sometimes feel during the initial project brief with the new client or company). Such was the case for Marietta Automotive who suggested that may be open to a 'car mirror' in their logo (as one of the preliminary concepts). Through a series of sketches and drawings, out designers came up with ideas and illustrations pretty close to what you see here; a car mirror and a landscape - a logo who's viewpoint was that of the driver, whilst they sit in the driver's seat. Okay, maybe the client DID have something after all (and despite our initial skepticism, turns out this atypical approach to an Auto company had some merits). We revised and edited the illustration until it was nailed down to the version above (yeah, we know - there's no road - it was removed as being too complex in smaller uses of the design). Because the logo illustration was so complex, our designers decided to 'frame' the entire thing in black, reversing out the company name and the various auto lines they represented - GMC, Hummer, Buick and Pontiac. The company name (and the auto manufacturers) were set in a fairly modern font with overlapping kerning in the main name (this allowed us to use the name as big as possible inside the logo. In order to maintain legibility in the featured brand car logos, the spacing was kept at an almost default setting). All in all, a decent logo and once mated with the tag line - "we put you in the driver's seat" it was a winner. See, sometimes clients DO know best!
