Behind the Design Scenes: Logos designed for hi-tech computer companies and consultants generally take a typically 'techie' approach - lots of globes and swooshes, rendered with all sorts of gleaming blends and design 'bling'. Not so with Source Kit, a project that saw our designers taking a decidedly retro approach. Rather than the typical ethernet plug (so common in computer and hi-tech company logos) our designers sketched out an electric plug (and an old style one at that) - and the sketch remained fairly intact throughout the logo software design process. Continuing with the 'rough' illustration motif, our design team placed the now-finalized plug on a rough color field (reminiscent of a paint blot) and topped the company logo off with a simple sans serif font using lower case characters only. Despite the simplicity of this logo, it remains apropos to this day (demonstrating the importance of a company identity with a long shelf-life).
