Behind the Design Scenes: We've created a lot of logos for professional organizations and groups since 1996. Case in point - AVAD (the acronym stands for the Alliance of Value Added Distributors - a professional sales organization headquartered in Van Nuys, California). The design for AVAD had to be dynamic enough to appeal to clients and consumers, yet conservative enough to project a professional image. In initial consultations with the client (and though information submitted via their online project submission form) it became apparent that the client wanted a text based logo (generally considered a wise choice when it comes to logos that feature acronyms) as opposed to an iconic or illustrative approach. Our designers created the AVAD typography in simple, solid black and white, before going to town with bevels, shading, highlights and extrusions. One note - if these 'special FX' are the be a PERMANENT feature of your identity, it's critical that any special FX that be added to the vector logo file format (as opposed to the pixel based file format).
