Basketball logos - Hoopnet Basketball.

Behind the Design Scenes: For the HoopNet Basketball logo project, our designers were tasked with developing a logo for a sports (primarily basketball) themed web site. There was only one caveat - the logo had to feature a fairly accurate icon of a basketball. Developed at the height of the dot com era, the logo was also to feature a 'swoosh' - very popular at the end of the '90s (and despite the fatigue factor of that particular visual cliche, this design remains topical to this day). Despite a fairly restrictive client brief, the basketball logo developed for Hoop Net remains a visitor and designer favorite. It also boasts the distinction of being the design that is most 'knocked off' - ie: copied for someone else's use without permission (see our copycats section for more) - and as such, has been the subject of more than a few 'cease and desist letter from our legal beagles. There's not much to say about Hoop Net other than it was an example of a basketball logo were everything seemed to fall into place - colors, logo fonts and imagery. The technical aspect of the artwork is often discussed on graphic design forums, as designers try to figure out how the logo was developed - particularly the basketball itself (it's actually a surprisingly complex illustration and yes - it IS a vector based design).
