At The Logo Factory®, we've been developing business logos for world-wide business clients since 1996. Our unused artwork files are extensive - thousands and thousands of great images, collecting digital dust on our studio hard drives. As outlined in our McLogo feature, other online design companies routinely pass off these images to unsuspecting clients as 'recycled' artwork, or to populate web sites consisting of what they refer to as logo templates. Not around here, The Logo Factory® has opened our Morgue Files, a library of unused logos and concepts that you can download (in vector based formats no less). Use our design offcasts to your heart's content - perfect for trying your hand at do it yourself graphic design. Nice too, if custombusiness logos are out of your budget, or you just want to play around with our design 'rejects' as a starting point. And if you're ever in the market for a business logo, we hope you'll keep The Logo Factory in mind.. [Morgue Files]
Business Logos
As a design studio that specializes in logos for new business ventures, The Logo Factory is often asked "what makes a great logo?" Answering that question is not as easy as it sounds, even for supposed logo experts (for more on this see our design articles in the library). A good business logo is timeless (there a few 'globe and swoosh logos that have become dated - especially after the 'dot-bomb' at the turn of the century). An effective brand is liked by the new business owner, the viewer, and hopefully the logo designer as well. It might tell viewers something about the business (though this is NOT carved in stone), and should be instantly recognized on subsequent viewings. Effective business logos should be adaptable to a wide range of media, from one color low resolution (faxes and checks) to full-color extravaganzas (think magazine advertisements and brochure designs). A more practical rule of thumb for any logo? Ask yourself - would YOU wear it on a golf-shirt. That usually tells volumes about any brand...
What makes The Logo Factory® different from other web-based logo design companies? We like to think it's because we're designers running a business, rather than business people (in college we referred to them as 'suits') trying to be designers. Not surprising really, considering our history. Steve Douglas, founder of The Logo Factory, has been involved in the graphic design and arts field for over twenty five years. Having studied traditional illustration at Sheridan College of Visual Arts (Brampton), as well as traditional art and photography at Ontario College of Art and Three Schools (Toronto). He's also been a magazine art director, and an Advertising Agency art director before founding his own freelance studio in 1990.
That freelance project evolved on the Internet into The Logo Factory®, after an online personal portfolio drew request after request for logo design services. "Over the years I tried to utilize my training as an illustrator but clients kept coming back for business logos. It seemed to be something I was good at, and was a niche market that pretty well developed itself. I had originally envisioned a rough version of the TLF concept - a firm that worked with small to medium companies to create top-notch corporate identity - back in 1993, but had shelved it due to circumstances of the day. it wasn't until I discovered the Internet that the idea was able to be realized completely..
