Sports Team Logos - Shafter Generals.
Client: City of Shafter.
Design Category: Sports Teams.
About: Logo design for the Shafter High School sports teams.
Logo Brief: Shafter High School is located in Shafter, California. It is named for General "Pecos Bill" Shafter, who was a general in a war in the 1800's. The school has about 1200 students and is in a community of about 12,000 in central California. (The Logo Factory also designed the municipal logo for the City of Shafter).
This is a logo for a high school, and is to be used as the main logo for all the school's sports teams. The logo had to incorporate the mascot of the school- naturally a General - and they were looking for something similar to NBA or NFL style team logos. The logo was to "look first class on the side of a football helmet or on a baseball cap". Shafter has a very active community spirit, so the city council wanted a 'look' that will get the school - and the town - excited about wearing school clothing at games and around the community. Over the years, the school has had a variety of logos that varied from sport to sport, but now they wanted as consistent logo of "Generals" for all the sports teams as well as the school.
"Since our "company" is a high school, the logo needs to be something that teenagers are going to get excited about wearing (in a sense, this logo is competing against all of the other pro sports logos that they have the option of wearing around school)".
The logo buzzwords: A sense of moving forward; pride; confidence; tradition (the school is 75 years old this year - 2003). Team spirit.
