About: Logo design for American Tax and Financial Group - a Texas based accounting company that specializes in income tax preparation, financial, and small business accountant services.
Logo Brief: Above all, any company that is involved in the accounting or financial services industry needs their logo design to portray a company that is committed to professionalism and accuracy. After all, we're talking about OPM (Other People's Money) and they tend to want financial matters looked after by consummate professionals. To that end, most logos for financial companies, tax consultants and accountants aren't very 'yoo-hoo'. The use of dollar signs, bills, or other financial 'clip art' is verboten (or it SHOULD be) as this kind of imagery is more befitting an MLM (Mutli-Level-Marketing) company or other 'get-rich-quick' schemes and not conservative companies who can be looked to for sound financial advice and accounting prowess. Financial service logo designs are a classic example of the K.I.S.S. principle - it's okay to want to bring in another 'theme' - i.e. the patriotic flair in this particular design - but it must be secondary to the simplicity of the overall 'look and feel'.
American Tax and Financial Group (a trademarked term) wanted their logo to be simple, with the usual financial 'buzz words' professional, trustworthy, etc. They wanted our designers to work in a USA logo, or flag imagery, and the colors (red, blue) were set in stone long before the project began. The logo also needed to work on signage, a common restriction on retail store logo design projects (see the Sept 28th Daily Logo for more) so the aspect ration needed to be horizontally favored. With the length of the main word, this wasn't an issue (though it can be with shorter named companies).
This logo is taken from an umbrella organization of three separate financial planning companies.
