Logo Brief: Humdinger Kettle Korn is a family owned and operated company selling freshly popped popcorn products and snack foods at farmers markets, street fairs, concerts, parades, etc. Humdinger (meaning 'extraordinary or remarkable') wanted a cartoon crow (as in something to crow about) to be featured in their new logo, and approached our logo design company based on some of the cartoon and character logos featured in our web site gallery. While the company had used a 'clip art' crow for years, they had grown to the point they wanted a crow of their very own. Our designers were given free reign, except the crow had to be 'fun' and 'original' to go along with the company philosophy. The company also suggested colors. The logo was also designed in two versions - a package version (shown) and a more horizontal version, used for signage.

The client wanted an illustrative treatment of their logo - more specifically a cartoon crow incorporated into a design that would help their unorthodox name to stick in customers minds (according to the American Heritage Dictionary Humdinger is a noun that refers to someone who is “extraordinary or remarkable”). The company’s tagline - “Something to crow about!” needed a spokesperson (spokescrow?) to be quoted.

Originally, the client was using a piece of clip art - a nondescript crow - in initial marketing efforts, and also toted around a metal sculpture of a crow (nicknamed Humdinger) for use in their displays. After do-it-yourself efforts of creating a graphic representation of the sculpture hadn’t produced any usable results, Humdinger brought in The Logo Factory to help. We created a cartoon version of a crow (seen here in several poses) as well as typography that could ’stand alone’ when required. We also set up various themed versions of the crow for holiday marketing, as well as for use in various marketing and advertising applications.
