Radio logos - Steve Dahl Radio Show designs.
Client: The Steve Dahl Radio Show
Design Category: Radio
About: A corporate logo design for the Steve Dahl Radio Show (WCKG 105.9 FM).
Logo Brief: The Steve Dahl show has been on the radio waves for 26 years, and appeals to both men and women in the 25 to 54 age demographic. Steve wanted a logo that fit into his radio show's format - funny, irreverent, thought provoking - while utilizing the show's best selling feature. Namely - the star himself.
Incorporating a character into a logo requires the skills of a seasoned designer. If the character sketch is not carefully done, the design can look A) amateur and 'goofy' or B) the logo may not even look like the person meant to be pictured. The Logo Factory used client supplied photo reference to work up character sketches which were then turned into a vector format based logo that was suitable for reproduction on all the planned media - hats, cups, t-shirts, sweaters as well as the standard stationery design material (business card, letterhead, etc). Like all our projects, the design for the radio show needed to be set-up as various formats, including four color print (CMYK), web color (RGB), black and white greyscale and linear (below).

The logo was made available in two versions - with the imposing figure, and without. Below - some initial concepts for the radio station logos using more traditional images and icons. The logo at left became the 'set piece' to which the Steve Dahl character was added, as well as the version used for more generic marketing purposes.
