Panther logo - Red Cat Onsite Computer Consultant.
Client: Red Cat Onsite Computer Consultant.
Design Category: Computer, Consulting
About: A logo design for Red Cat On Site - a computer consulting and service company focusing on home and SOHO markets.
Logo Brief: The business model concept for Red Cat was that of a "computer store on wheels". Alas, the client didn't want to utilize this imagery in their logotype (would have been fun). Rather, they wanted to concentrate on developing a cat logo. And in this particular instance - a RED cat. Rather than a cartoon or whimsical feline, Red Cat wanted a more formidable beast - a panther. The client also inquired if it was possible for The Logo Factory to come up with "something that can integrate the cat and a computer?". (it was possible). Our designers worked first on the panther - it needed to print in small sizes (for computer bubble magnets) as well as be simple enough to recognize from a distance. Once that was finalized, we worked on the computer monitor.
Usually, when dealing with illustrative logos, it's imperative that any hardware that is used in the logo be accurate (lest we offend the purists). The opposite is true with logos that feature computer equipment. Computer hardware changes every few months, and what's in vogue today will not be in vogue six months from now. If you utilize a specific type of computer (or in this case - a monitor) you run the risk of having a logo that is as obsolete as the equipment portrayed. To counter this possibility, our designers came up with a monitor that is generic, and slightly futuristic. This gives the logo longer shelf-life and avoids being 'trendy'. The panther logo was finished off with a simple logo font treatment that drove the 'red' image home. A few graphic accents to balance the composition and we were all set.
