Record store logo - The Music Cellar Music record label & store.
Client: The Music Cellar.
Design Category: Record Label and Store
About: A logo design project for The Music Cellar, small independent record label and accompanying store. The client also wanted a sub-brand logo that could be utilized on logo shirts and other material.
Logo Brief: The name Music Cellar was a double entendre, referring both to the physical location (in a cellar) and the business model (record sales - i.e.: seller). The client wanted the logo to reflect both of these without falling into the usual cliché imagery of music notes, bars, etc. The logo was to be edgy, rough and reflect the 'basement' nature of the business. The client was also impressed by The Logo Factory logo typography and was after a similar "rough hewn" look for their recording label.

Once we had finalized the main Music Cellar logo, our designers then tackled the sub-brand, an image that was different from the original (yet similar enough to be from the same family) coupled with the tag "are you a cellar dweller?". The client wanted to establish a 'club-like' brand loyalty, and wanted a name for loyal customers and artists - 'cellar dweller'. One of our illustrators created an edgy portrait image (manipulated on a photocopy machine) and used the same font used in the main logo.
