About: A logo design for Limelight Video Services -a video production company offering video duplication, video editing, video to DVD transfer and duplication, DVD authoring, digital and print photo transfer to CD/DVD, and home movie transfer to VHS and DVD.
Logo Brief: When the owners of Limelight Video first approached The Logo Factory for the development of their new brand icon, they had thought of fairly traditional approaches to a logo for the video industry. In initial consultations, the client offered several rudimentary conceptualizations for the approach to their logo - film cans, film reels and either a film projector or camera. All fairly serviceable, but as the client had also discussed wanting an icon that was "memorable", our designers quickly convinced Limelight that a different approach was needed. Film cans and reels, projectors and cameras have been done to death (in fact, even The Logo Factory uses film cans and reels throughout our site to represent flash animation). Using our brand of 'round table' design methodology, our staff came up with various iconic angles on video (all of them fairly obvious) until someone came up with the idea - a literal graphic translation of 'Limelight". In other words, a lime, bathed in light, illustrated in a way that was indicative of a film set or stage.
The lime began life with a cartoonish approach (which was quickly cast aside - the client was after a logo that could appeal to corporate types) until we ended up with the 'gel' version pictured above. Despite all the detail, this is still a two color icon and can be printed using PANTONE spot colors, allowing color accuracy and economy. A non-intrusive logo font was selected for the 'Limelight Video Productions', as our designers wanted the typography to be almost a footnote. After all - Limelight had already been spelt out fairly succinctly in the design itself.
