About: Logo design for FreeBee Pagers, a pager marketing program.
Logo Brief: It was our designers who came up with the idea for the bee
logo for the FreeBee pager brand icon. As part of a telecommunication marketing program, the logo was initially directed to be 'hip' and because most of the marketing for FreeBee was aimed at college and university students, a youth appeal was imperative.
During initial preliminaries our designers came up with a bee character, which the client loved, and which would become the theme throughout the collateral marketing material (which The Logo Factory also had a hand in). This auto-decided the color scheme as well; naturally, any bee icon needs a nice yellow and black motif. As the logo needed to print on a wide range of media, including the actual pagers, our designers kept the character detail to the absolute minimum, while adding enough to keep the bee interesting and memorable.

Once the logo, letterhead and business cards were finalized, the bee theme was ported throughout the marketing material for Free Bee, including honeycombs on the brochure design and web site (as buttons) and in the flash movies that outlined the pager's features. Designed way back in 1999, Free Bee is still a favorite around The Logo Factory studios and the logo remains as tireless now as it did then.
