Wolda 08Speaking about design competitions, the folks that brought you the annual Eulda (European Logo Design something or other) competition have now set their sites on the rest of the globe, announcing their Wolda (World Logo Design something or other) competition. Guess it’s like Eulda, only this logo design competition is open to the rest of us pen and pixel pushers. And they’re taking entries starting tomorrow. Designers, agencies, studios and students from all over the world are invited to enter and the ‘08 book is open for any logo published between January 1, 2007 and December 31, 2007. Deadline for submissions is May 20, 2008. There’s a cost to enter that depends on how many, where you’re from, who you work for – details can be found on their rules page.

Prizes are trophies, certificates and the promotion that comes with getting your designs published in such a widely publicized book. You’ve gotta add this info to your blog so that when people ask “where’s Wolda?”, you can – oh c’mon, I won’t be the last..

    Will you be entering, Steve?

I’d thought about it, although I was underwhelmed by Eulda 07. Eulda 06 was nice to see, but they took a step backwards in my opinion. Not sure how that happened.

  2. Probably not. I’m generally not too fond of contests with required fees to enter. It’s a personal thing, but seems to me that sales of related material (books, etc) using the winning designs as content, should finance whatever costs are involved. It could also be argued that the entry fees are unfair to smaller shops and independents who may not have the available funds to enter in the ‘hopes’ of winning some publicity. As I mentioned, it’s a personal thing, so I’m not tub thumping on a soapbox and mention such gigs when they come up.

It’s also why I like contests such as your current Blog Logo Competition – entrants are assured of some publicity, some link love and a little bit of ‘Kilroy Was Here’ without having to dig into their wallets.
