Ahm. Good question. Generally speaking no pointy graphics (could be interpreted as shards of pain). No Murphy the Molar clones. And stay away from dentist drills or other sharp objects you’re going to run into while sitting in the chair. Why do I ask? Strangely enough, the question was popped by the UK’s BBC in their feature what makes a good dentist’s logo?, though to be honest, not exactly sure why. Seems a strange kind of question to ask out of the blue. And speaking about dentist logos (how’s that for a segue), a UK dental group found out what may not such a good idea for a logo. Namely, a cartoon crocodile. UK Dentist LogoFrench clothing giant Lacoste recently filed a lawsuit against a small UK dental firm, claiming that the crocodile mascot logo used by the dentists would harm Lacoste’s business. Should point out that the logo is similar (as in being a crocodile and all) though not exact. It’s also in a completely different business segment, so while I’m not a lawyer (my lawyer tells me I need to say that) I’d opine that Lacoste wouldn’t have a leg to stand on. Which, as it turns our, they didn’t. The suit was tossed out of court and the company ordered to pay the dentist’s $3000 legal bill (and they wonder why big corps get a bad rap, though I ain’t going to shed any, wait for it – crocodile tears – *snarf*). Tim Rumney and Simon Moore, from The Dental Practice, told the Beeb, “We are happy the situation has been resolved but astonished by the length of time it took to reach this conclusion. We do not consider ourselves to be in the same market place at all and do not see that we are treading on any toes.” And to think Lacoste got a mention yesterday as a legendary logo. Hat tip to Trendhunter for their Lacost sues dentist over logo – Court says it’s a croc segment. Though I reckon Simon and Tim can’t wait for the publicity to die down, and they can get back to drilling out people’s skulls with scary instruments of horror (sorry – fear of tooth doctors getting the better of me).
