Wikipedia defines Web 2.0 thusly -

“Web 2.0, a phrase coined by O’Reilly Media in 2004, refers to a supposed second-generation of Internet-based services — such as social networking sites, wikis, communication tools, and folksonomies — that let people collaborate and share information online in previously unavailable ways. O’Reilly Media, in collaboration with MediaLive International, used the phrase as a title for a series of conferences and since then it has become a popular (though ill-defined and often criticized) buzzword amongst certain technical and marketing communities”.

A logo design ’style’ tends to evolve around the latest version of the web. Some of you may remember the ’swoosh’ phenomenon from the late ’90’s? We certainly do – hell, we’re even credited as being an instigator of the movement as well as of the reasons for the backlash (scroll to the bottom). In any case, along with Web 2.0 comes yet another type of logo (though when it comes to logo design – ’style’ could be more accurately described as design techniques that start off being ‘cool’ and ‘original’, but at some point become copied to death). From what we can ascertain so far, Web 2.0 logos feature blends (Apple brought that to the table with their OS X icons) bright colors (green and orange seem to be faves) and upbeat, cheery font faces. The Font Shop take a look at Web 2.0 logos and post a myriad of examples on their blog (with font descriptions natch).
