We Play by the Rules. Respecting copyright sign in Niagara Falls, NY

iPhone App logoWas down at Niagara Falls with the Mrs. last week, took a trip across the border and saw this sign in a custom embroidered cap store at the Fashion Outlet Mall.

The sign caught my attention because it seemed so nice. So sane. And just so damned civilized. The photograph’s a bit futzy (iPhone cameras aren’t the best and it was taken inside a darkish shop) but the general gist is this: When it comes to making a customized hat for you, we will respect other people’s logos, intellectual properties and even team colors, so please don’t ask us to knock off anyone else’s stuff unless you have official permission to do so. ‘Cause we won’t. And thanks for understanding.

Of course, I’m sure there are some pragmatic legal reasons for the sign, but they’re very much not apparent in the verbiage. I remember thinking to myself, “Wow, if only designers, all designers, would play this way, the world would be a much cooler place”.

For other designers anyway [picture after the jump].

We play by the rules FS

This is a new feature of our blog that I’m going to mess around with. Random photographs and assorted crap that I capture on my Apple iPhone during my travels. May, or may not, be logo or design related. I’ve set myself some ground rules 1) the photo has to be taken with my iPhone (no cheating with the new 13MP gizmo I picked up recently) 2) no cropping (the photo has to be used ‘as is’ and 3) no Photoshop tinkering (other than lighten, contrast and sharpen to up the quality a bit). Hope you’ll find it at least marginally interesting.

I really want to applaud this sign as such integrity builds respect for the designers who create using their imagination and skills
