The Daily Logo: Voodoo

When we first started our Daily Logo feature back in 2003, we tried to keep it daily. We really did. Alas, the road to hell is paved with good intentions and The Daily Logo often became, well, less than daily. Couple of times too. Never ones to give up, we’re gonna give it another shot and try to stay on top of things (truth to tell, paying gigs often get in the way of blogging around The Factor) and make The Daily Logo, well, daily. Again.

Voodoo logo design

To get us off on the right foot, the first of our re-re-launched Daily Logos is a nifty little design created for Voodoo, a digital imaging company, centered around a cute little Voodoo doll complete with stick pins and a pretty neat font workup. Some notes about the design – it’s a vector-based two color spot design, and the doll was illustrated sans any reference material. Though it did end up looking like a little like a sack character from Little Big Planet – my wife’s fave Playstation game (relax – we did it first). Cute though, huh? Here’s the good news too – this project was deep-sixed, so the design featured above is up for grabs for anyone that wants it. Couple of hundred bucks and we’ll give you exclusive rights, the various file formats and what have you. Hey, in these economic times, gotta make hay where you can. If you’re interested, drop us a line at the shop.

What a great logo! How did you get the stroke to fill in around the perimeter of the doll and the text together (the light gray color)?

Hey Julie, thanks for the kind words.

In order to get the gray outline, we simply grabbed all artwork, grouped and copied it, and then pasted it behind the original doll and type. We then took the cloned artwork, joined it using the pathfinder, and then put a path around the new shape. Voila. A perfect outline around the doll and the lettering.

If I get a chance in the next couple of days, I try and put together a few screen grabs to illustrate what I’m blathering on about.

Aaaah, that’s how you did it! I have been wondering how to get that effect for a long time now. Thank you so much, I greatly appreciate it. If you do get a chance to make some screen shots, feel free to email the link to me. Thank you again very very much!!!

    @ Julie

No problem at all – glad that helped. I’ve haven’t forgot about posting some screenshots – just trying to clear up some client work before the weekend.
