Can’t count the number of times that we get requests from non-profits, asking us if we can design a logo, web site or other marketing material for free or as a ‘pro-bono’ gig. While we certainly do quite a lot of pro-bono work for causes that we believe in (the logo for the Chimpanzee Species Survival Plan is one such example), if we were to entertain every request that came our way, we’d be swamped by pro-bono work and left with nary enough studio time for clients. There is, however, another resource for non-profits and charities – Tech Soup, an organization that makes available free information, resources, and support for eligible charity and non-profit organizations. From their web site:
TechSoup provides instructional articles and worksheets for nonprofit staff members who utilize information technologies, as well as technology planning information for executives and other decision makers. Our introductory articles and message board support are aimed at those who do not have much experience using technology, but we also provide more advanced information.
The site also offers discounted software and technology services from giants like Microsoft, Adobe and the like. And by the way, just because we can’t design stuff for every charity that asks, doesn’t mean that we turn all requests away.
Never hurts to ask…
