Valentines Day Sweetheart logo. Download away!

Valentine’s Day is on Sunday, but as most of us will be busy with our sweethearts (the entire point of the exercise), thought we’d get the jump and offer up this keen little Valentine’s Day love heart illustration (download buttons below). Might be worthwhile for anyone who’s in a do-it-yourself card making mode. The artwork is free from our Morgue Files and all we ask it that you don’t use it for a commercial gig, resell it to anyone else, add it to a stock illustration collection or enter it into a logo design contest (see here for our blanket Morgue Files legal blabbage). Other than that, if you think it’ll brighten up the day of someone come Sunday, download away and use as you see fit. The artwork is available in Adobe Illustrator .EPS and .PDF formats. Free Logo Design Book – Logopalooza Volume 2

Got to admit it’s been a long time coming, but we just finished up the second edition of Logopalooza, our logo design e-book series, a few minutes ago (quite literally). This puppy is hot of the digital presses, so there’s probably a few typos that we need to fix, and there may some last minute edits as we go over the 70+ pages (yep, 78 to be exact). It’s also going to take us a day or two to set up the e-mail form-request gadgetry (so, technically I guess the book hasn’t been ‘officially’ released) but figured we’d give our faithful blog readers first chance to snag Logopalooza Volume Two first. We’ve ‘beefed up’ this volume with a load of design tips, examples and other logo design information that might be interesting if you’re a designer, or someone investigating a logo project for the first time. UPDATE: We’ve switched over the download request form, and the first edition of Logopalooza has officially been retired. While understanding that free stuff always has an appeal, I still find it hard to believe that our first e-book was downloaded almost 60,000 times. Thanks to everyone that made it such a success.

Logopalooza – 35,000 downloads & counting…

Well, you can color me amazed. Our humble downloadable e-book – Logopalooza Volume 1 – has been downloaded over 35,000 times as of this morning. Pretty heady stuff and something that, to be truly honest, I didn’t really expect. Originally created as a simple download that showcased examples of our work for clients and designers to take a looksee at, Logopalooza seems to have developed a life of its own since it was released last year. We’ve been kicking volume two around the shop for months now, but this morning’s download figures tell me that it’s time to get the thumb out and finally finish her up. We’ve also had lots of requests for notification of the next tome (thanks to a handy check box on the form) so it seems to be a safe bet that there’s a decent amount of interest in this kind of thing. We’re also working on a spin-off project that revolves around the Logopalooza theme, but we’re keeping that under wraps till the New Year. Should be a lot of fun. In any case, if you haven’t downloaded Volume 1 yet, it’s still available here. Once we’ve finished up the new version (hopefully, in time to coincide with the upcoming Logopalooza venture) we’ll make an announcement on The Factor…

Free logos from The Logo Factory…

Have we seriously lost our collective minds? First, we announced that we’re giving away free design swag. Now, we’re giving away free logos (with royalty free licenses to boot)? Yikes. Well, there is a method to the madness. We’ve been preaching against the evils and dangers of logo templates for eons. Many of the so-called logo template web sites feature designs that, to be honest, aren’t original, and not even worth the few bucks they’re being peddled for. The idea of paying to time-share a logo strikes us as a peculiar notion. We’ve often laughed around the studio that our offcasts and rejected designs are better than some of the stuff that unknowing buyers are paying for. With all of this in mind, we’ve decided to give away some of our discarded and rejected designs as free logos. Some are pretty cool. Some, not so much (though, they are certainly worth what you gonna pay for them). So, if you’re looking for templately logos – save your money and we’ll be glad to give you one of our older designs for Nada. Zilch. Zippo. Of course, this is also a way for us to pimp our under-development stock logo service Logos in a Box – scheduled for launch early in the new year. Accordingly, here’s a dice themed logo that you can download and use to your heart’s content. Add your company name, and presto – your own casino logo. Without having to pay a dime. And that can’t be too bad, huh? Like our free design swag, this will be approached in a fairlly informal method – adding a new logo every few days or so. At some point, we’ll have to ‘cull’ what’s available, so check back often. Course, if you want a custom logo, you can always check out our main site.

Another Free Design Swag Download: This icon was developed as part of a logo design project for an air conditioning company (take a wild stab at what the company was called). The idea for the logo was pretty straight forward – the compay name was placed (sideways) in the vertical black bar, while the tagline and descriptor were placed in the black and gold bars under the image. The company ultimately did go with a Tiger design for their logo – it just wasn’t this one. Now we’ve got a decently rendered tiger in need of a home. Download the vector version of ths graphic here. As usual, you can use, abuse and generally have fun with this artwork, following these simple rules…

Character and ‘sign holder’…

Another Free Design Swag Download: This decent little character was originally designed as a ‘sign holder’ for a children’s portion of a theme park. The idea was to place text logos describing the various sections and attractions on the sign held by the characters (monsters and in later stages – animals). He’s one in a series, but the only one that got past preliminary sketches. In any case, the client went with something a little more conservative, leaving this lovable dude orphaned. Perhaps you can download him and put him to use. As usual, there’s the legal beagle notice of usage.

Some free vector artwork from our archives

We’re gonna try something a little different around the blog (the new server permits it and just in time for Christmas too). Over the years we’ve amassed a ton of unused design work. Some of it from rejected/abandoned client projects – known as our Morgue Files. Some of it from internal projects and promotions. And some artwork we’ve created just for the fun of it. Some of this work is very, very nice (but we simply can’t use it for anything else) and some of it is interesting from a technical or conceptual pov. Seemed a shame to have all this nice artwork sitting around collecting digital dust, so we’ve decided to release some of our archives into the wild with downloadable artwork (in editable and usable vector-based .PDF no less) from our blog. We’ll keep it pretty informal for a while (a new release or two every few days) and if there’s suitable interest, I’ll crank it up a notch and give away some free company logos. In terms of bandwidth, we’ll have to ‘cull’ the collection every once in a while, so check back often. As always, by doing something like this, we run the risk having someone ruin things for everybody else. So here’s a few basic rules about any Design Swag you download off our site -
