Big, big, beeeg, movie buzz about the upcoming actioner Snakes on a Plane featuring Sam L. Jackson (official site here). I’ll give ya three guesses as to what the flick is about and the first two don’t count. And if the snake logo (featured above) isn’t enough to give you a hint – it’s about snakes on a plane. To be more specific – “on board a flight over the Pacific Ocean, an assassin, bent on killing a passenger who’s a witness in protective custody, lets loose a crate full of deadly snakes.” Should be enough to give most people a case of the heebie jeebies (yours truly included). Scheduled to be released by New Line Cinemas in August of this year, the movie may turn out to be one of blockbusters of the year, despite its orignal humble aspirations. At one point, the film’s working title was altered to Pacific Air Flight 121 until a a perplxed Samuel L. Jackson told an interviewer, “We’re totally changing that back. That’s the only reason I took the job: I read the title.”
Even though the movie hasn’t been released, Snakes on a Plane has became an Internet meme soon after an industry insider blog entry and mentions on several Internet portals. The title inspired bloggers to create songs, apparel, poster art, pages of fan fiction, parody films, and mock movie trailers. (Snakes on a Blog seems to be the best repository of fan material). The phrase “Snakes On a Plane” is now used on Internet forums to indicate that a given topic is nonsensical. Due to the buzz, designers have been eagerly anticipating release of the official artwork – the first being the logo shown above.
Inspired by unofficial fan artwork, the design resembles caduceus logo and quickly spread around the Internet and blogosphere. Hence it showing up here. The logo was even discussed on the Entertainment Weekly web site where unfortunately, they printed the wrong one.
Heh-heh. Suckahs….
