The stupid it burnsYesterday, we took a fairly in-depth look at how conservative bloggers and some of the media, Fox News for example, found what they believed was an Islamic Crescent in a “new” Missile Defense Agency logo. Barack Obama‘s Missile Defense Agency and proceeded to stage a full-core internet freakout. Not going to recap, other than with this: it ain’t Obama’s anything as it was created before his campaign. it ain’t a logo, it ain’t new and it doesn’t contain a crescent, Islamic or otherwise. Despite this, the tin-foil hattery continues unabated, as people try to find even more nefarious connections in a fairly innocuous bit of design eye-candy. Latest addition to the nonsense is the Washington Times, who’ve managed to find a connection between the Missile Defense Agency logo, Obama’s campaign logo and, tah-dah, The Iranian Space Agency. If only we were kidding, but alas, the updated blog post goes something like this:

The Washington Times logo
Obama Missile Defense Agency logo apes Iranian space agency logo
Compare the new logo to the Obama campaign 2008 logo and the Iranian space agency logo. Could TMP Government possibly come up with something else that does not seem to remind people of an American campaign long finished or a space agency whose nation’s leader is a tyrant that wants to see our country’s demise?

Sigh. One more time folks, one more time.

One Comment to “Missile Defense Agency logo. More tin-foil hattery”

  1. Wow. Just. Wow.

Now, I’d be willing to bet that if you rounded up 100 random individuals, less than 10 (and I’m being generous here) would be able to pick out the Iranian Space Agency logo from a lineup.

Talk about people seeing what they want, regardless of what it really is (or, in this case, isn’t).
