Hitting the toobz this morning – the new London 2012 Olympics logo has been officially launched. In a word – hideous. In two – absolutely hideous. Looks like someone dropped a perfectly good logo on the floor and broke it. I’m not on my lonesome either – in a brief hunt through design blogs and forums, I can’t find a single soul who has a good thing to say about the mark. A synopsis of the whys and the whos here. The debate about how truly awful this logo is has already begun. Why, there’s even an online petition (boasting over two thousand signatures already) that beseeches organizors to
“Scrap and change the ridiculous logo unveiled for the London 2012 Olympics.”
In an ongoing BBC poll, over 80% of people when given the choice of describing this logo as Gold, Silver or Bronze chose the alternative – a wooden spoon. For comparison purposes, you can view previous efforts below and here.
