King County, WA. After a tumultuous two decade battle, King County unveils the logo for their new namesake – Dr. Martin Luther King.

Tomorrow’s historic vote by the King County Council on whether to adopt the new logo is the culmination of a 20-year effort to change the county’s namesake from a 19th Century slave-owner and change its logo from a gold crown to an image of Dr. King.

Alas, the logo isn’t particularly awe-inspiring, at least from a visual perspective, but the story behind its development is tres, tres cool. Logo and story at the link.
