Looks like Intel has gassed the old ‘Intel Inside’ logo for a more streamlined approach to their brand. It also appears that the ‘Inside’ mark, as well as the background ’swoosh’, have both been replaced with a cleaner, sleeker design and the tagline ‘Leap Ahead’. The timing of this coincides nicely with the release of the new Apple MacBook Pro computers featuring new Intel Core Duo chips. Apple users (guilty) would be horrified at having the old “Intel Inside!” logo plastered over their gleaming new titanium shells, so this is probably a very deft move by Intel. Most brand-name PCs that use Intel processors take part in the “Intel Inside” program, which gives the computer makers marketing dollars for displaying the chipmaker’s logo on their products and in their advertising. Acccording to CNET, Apple decided not to sign on to the program with the lineup of Intel-based Macs that CEO Steve Jobs introduced Tuesday. “We chose not to take part in the Intel Inside campaign,” Phil Schiller, Apple senior vice president of worldwide product marketing, said in an interview at the Macworld Expo.

The only reference to the new chips will be on the iMac box which will feature a logo for Intel’s dual-core Duo processor, in part to distinguish it from the existing PowerPC-based iMac, which has very similar features and sells for the same price as its predecessor.
The new Apples? – boasting speeds of up to 4X the now ‘old’ G4 Powerbooks, the new Apples promise to bring new life to the Intel brand as well as a new demand for the high speed machines. Intel has been trailing AMD in chip performance for servers and desktop computers, but it is widely believed that the new new cosy relationship with Apple may reverse that trend. Apples Ipod has made the computer manufacturer a household feature, and the new blazing machines (starting at just under $US 2,000) are sure to add more market penetration.
