A faux World Cup logo does the rounds and drives FIFA officials around the bend. Ain’t the first time a prank high-profile sports logo has been mistaken for the official version either.
A little bit late to the party with this one, but we’ve been occupied for a while, and have some things to get caught up on. Ready? Let’s go. A satirical knock-off of the 2010 FIFA World Cup logo that surfaced a few weeks ago has irked a few of the people over at FIFA after making an appearance on a online sports store selling FIFA 2010 merch.
The logo (above left), which features a second abstract figure carrying a machine gun and chasing the first, is what appears to be a tongue-in-cheek spoof of the original, Officials at FIFA didn’t find anything about the redesign terribly amusing, especially as the re-worked artwork kept appearing on websites, replacing the official version. The faux logo was even used by a New Zealand sports store on their World Cup merchandise website, some poor web designer having grabbed it from Google image search without noticing the image wasn’t the original, or official, version. Seems the doppelganger design was turning up in top ten search results.
The faux logo stems from a unencyclopedia.com posting which includes the logo and a brief description: “The revised logo for the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa has been designed to incorporate the host nation’s actual national sport.” The title of the logo, as posted on unencyclopedia is simply FIFA 2010 Logo – Armed Robbery Edition. For what it’s worth, we wrote about the 2010 World Cup logo a couple of years ago. That’s when a bunch of designers protested being left out of the selection process, and launched their own design contest.
Oddly, this isn’t the first time a prank version of a logo finding its way into Google image search caused confusion and hilarity for those who find such things amusing. Last winter, a doctored version of the Canadian Vancouver Olympic mascots was picked up from Google by European newspapers. Trouble is, that image featured Pedobear, an internet meme used to thwart pedophiles on the internet.
The internet went wild with that one too.

Hi Carly. Thanks for the link. Interesting collection.
actually, in my country (Uruguay) some retard designer mistook the original logo with the fake one and actually used it on an advertising, was printed and put all over the city… and no one noticed until it was everywhere.

Thanks for sharing. Interesting to know that there is a fake logo design.
Hello, I am a user on Uncyclopedia. I just wanted to point out that it’s Uncyclopedia, not Unencyclopedia. Thank you for your time.

Magic man is right. It’s spelled “Un-cyclopedia”, not “un-encyclopedia” (hyphenation mine, not the actual spelling). At least the link to the site was spelled right, as it actually leads somewhere…
The user who created that image is currently nominated for User of the Month. A prestigious title.
Ahahahhahahaha! This is too awesome
I know, right?
P.S.
For those of you who don’t know, Sonje is the one who created the image.
