A few months ago we told you about the Eulda Logo Design Annual and the related contest for top-notch design. Don’t know how we missed this (other than the fact we were on summer schedule) but Eulda has announced the list of winning logos on their site. The ‘Best of Europe’ winning logo is featured below left. Created by Portugal’s Shift Design for Sociedade de Desenvolvimento do Norte da Madeira the logo is described thusly:
Winning Eulda Logo

Grutas de São Vicente – A journey in to the interior of the earth. The volcanic caves in the northern shore of Madeira (Portugal) in São Vicente, allows people to see the interior of the island as well as the volcanic process that was responsible for the origin of the Madeira’s archipelago. The Volcanic Centre, near the São Vicente Caves, brings together culture, knowledge, leisure and fun. Audiovisuals Shows recreate the geologic evolution of the caves, it simulates a volcanic eruption and the creation of a new island.

Quite a nice logo design visually, but I’d have some reservations about its application across a wide variety of media (though, I will admit that not being in possession of the original client brief and project scope, I have no idea what the plans for the design are. If this is web-based only, then no problems. If its use is for a wide range of applications – digital and traditional – I’d be concerned). Some of the other winning logos featured are pretty nifty – others pay a little bit too much homage to the ’90s phenomenon the ‘swoosh logo‘. In any case, its certainly worth a looksee to see what designers across the pond are up to…
