Valentine’s Day is on Sunday, but as most of us will be busy with our sweethearts (the entire point of the exercise), thought we’d get the jump and offer up this keen little Valentine’s Day love heart illustration (download buttons below). Might be worthwhile for anyone who’s in a do-it-yourself card making mode. The artwork is free from our Morgue Files and all we ask it that you don’t use it for a commercial gig, resell it to anyone else, add it to a stock illustration collection or enter it into a logo design contest (see here for our blanket Morgue Files legal blabbage). Other than that, if you think it’ll brighten up the day of someone come Sunday, download away and use as you see fit. The artwork is available in Adobe Illustrator .EPS and .PDF formats. Logos in a Box – Stock logo design

Since we opened our doors in 1996, The Logo Factory staff have worked on thousands of logo design projects for clients all over the world. During the course of these projects, our designers have developed an equal number of concepts, sketches and digital doodles that, for one reason or another, didn’t make the cut. Weren’t exactly what the client was after, or as a result of direction change, the designs were shelved. As we’ve always maintained a strict ‘no recycled logo‘ policy – we never utilize previously deigned work as part of any custom logo workup – these designs have remained on our network hard drives, collecting digital dust. So what happens to this artwork? From time to time, we make some of these material available as free logos in our Morgue Files. Also, a few years back – 2001 to be exact – we offered some of these designs as stock logos through our Logos in a Box website, but discontinued the fairly successful service a year later – the website was never up to par, and the ordering system was a little wonky. Work loads being what they were, we never had the time to do the service justice, nor to develop a catalog system that would efficiently track inventory. Until now. After a fairly lengthy development time, we’ve relaunched our Logos in a Box stock logo service, complete with a face lift and nifty inventory system, and have begun populating the database with an inventory of pretty cool designs, available for purchase as limited and exclusive licenses. Developed under a kind of ‘if you can’t beat them’ philosophy, Logos in a Box was formulated as an alternative to the plethora of sites offering logo templates and generic flash driven do-it-yourself logo generators, the quality of which has always been mediocre and the ownership issues suspect. It won’t be suitable for every application, but Logos in a Box still offers clients the opportunity to work with our designers in the customization of their logo, but as the conceptual stage has already been taken care of, at a fairly decent price break over a ‘from-scratch’ development offered through our standard logo design packages.

How does Logos in a Box work? Quite simply actually. Log on to our LIAB website where you can access our inventory of stock logos. These are not logo templates or clip art, but rather professionally rendered designs from some of the best, and most experienced, logo designers in the industry. Whenever you find a logo that’s appropriate, you can purchase it outright (exclusive purchases only) right away and then work with our designers through our customization process. We’ll add your company name, change colors, move the elements around – everything you need to make one of our Logos in a Box unique to your particular application. Once you’ve approved your new logo, we’ll prep everything into professional vector logo formats and web files for download right off your client page. That’s all there is to it.

Within our Logos in a Box inventory you’ll various types of logos, including the highly illustrative logo style that The Logo Factory has become noted for. You may even recognize some of the works from our logo gallery (we sometimes use designs from the process, rather than the selected logo). On some of the LIAB material, we’ll even give you typography suggestions in order that you can better visualize how an illustration or icon will look once it’s worked up as a full-blown logo.

We’ll also announce notable additions to the Logos in a Box inventory here on The Factor – about a week before they’re made available to the public, so that visitors to The Logo Factory core site will have the opportunity to grab logo designs as they become available. Free logos from The Logo Factory…

Have we seriously lost our collective minds? First, we announced that we’re giving away free design swag. Now, we’re giving away free logos (with royalty free licenses to boot)? Yikes. Well, there is a method to the madness. We’ve been preaching against the evils and dangers of logo templates for eons. Many of the so-called logo template web sites feature designs that, to be honest, aren’t original, and not even worth the few bucks they’re being peddled for. The idea of paying to time-share a logo strikes us as a peculiar notion. We’ve often laughed around the studio that our offcasts and rejected designs are better than some of the stuff that unknowing buyers are paying for. With all of this in mind, we’ve decided to give away some of our discarded and rejected designs as free logos. Some are pretty cool. Some, not so much (though, they are certainly worth what you gonna pay for them). So, if you’re looking for templately logos – save your money and we’ll be glad to give you one of our older designs for Nada. Zilch. Zippo. Of course, this is also a way for us to pimp our under-development stock logo service Logos in a Box – scheduled for launch early in the new year. Accordingly, here’s a dice themed logo that you can download and use to your heart’s content. Add your company name, and presto – your own casino logo. Without having to pay a dime. And that can’t be too bad, huh? Like our free design swag, this will be approached in a fairlly informal method – adding a new logo every few days or so. At some point, we’ll have to ‘cull’ what’s available, so check back often. Course, if you want a custom logo, you can always check out our main site.

Free Tiger vector artwork

Another Free Design Swag Download: This icon was developed as part of a logo design project for an air conditioning company (take a wild stab at what the company was called). The idea for the logo was pretty straight forward – the compay name was placed (sideways) in the vertical black bar, while the tagline and descriptor were placed in the black and gold bars under the image. The company ultimately did go with a Tiger design for their logo – it just wasn’t this one. Now we’ve got a decently rendered tiger in need of a home. Download the vector version of ths graphic here. As usual, you can use, abuse and generally have fun with this artwork, following these simple rules…

Character and ‘sign holder’…

Another Free Design Swag Download: This decent little character was originally designed as a ‘sign holder’ for a children’s portion of a theme park. The idea was to place text logos describing the various sections and attractions on the sign held by the characters (monsters and in later stages – animals). He’s one in a series, but the only one that got past preliminary sketches. In any case, the client went with something a little more conservative, leaving this lovable dude orphaned. Perhaps you can download him and put him to use. As usual, there’s the legal beagle notice of usage.
