Canadian Logos. Eh?

Had to snicker at this one. In heavy rotation in Google Adwords is a site that calls itself Canadian Logos. Got the .ca connotation and everything - as in CanadianLogos.ca. Being served (thanks to Google’s localization filters) to people who live in Canada. And man, do these guys really, really want you to believe they’re from Canada. You got the cheesy Maple Leaf. Check. Niagara Falls. Check. A Moose. Check.
And of course, the ubiquitous Mountie. Check. And lastly, under the order section - the Canadian penny (worth almost the same as a US penny - probably the reason behind all of this). It’s like someone fired up Google and did a search for every stereotypical, lame Canadian icon imaginable (hey folks, ya forgot the Beaver logo). No big deal, right? Not really - except for one small detail. The Niagara Falls in the ‘Process’ tab looks a little different than the falls in the photo below (courtesy of Wiki). That’s cause the big picture is of the Horseshoe Falls (gets its name from the shape) while the photo from Canadian Logos (Eh?) is of the US Falls, found across the way in Buffalo, NY. Now, that shouldn’t be a big deal, unless you happen to be from Canada where it’s a very big deal.

Almost to the point of national loonacy. The lovely Horsehoe Falls are a point of National pride, and one of the few things Canadians can actually boast is better than their States Side brothers and sisters. But you’d know that if you’re from Canada. Which I’m willing to bet Canadian Logos aren’t. What’s the point to the subterfuge? Well, I guess since the greenback and the loonie are pretty much on par, some of these shady logo companies are realizing that Canada is no longer the disposable market it used to be. And marketing as ‘made in Canada’ would certainly appeal to folks who like to buy local. Trouble is, you going to market to denizens of the frozen north (and try to pass yourself off as one), at least get the cultural landmarks straight. Eh?
