Beauty Supply Company logo

Steve Douglas on May 23rd, 2007

Rejected design for a beauty supply company

While we generally try to feature only ‘final’ logo designs as our Daily Logo feature, sometimes some of our rejected designs are (in our opinion) more effective than the design finally selected by the client. That’s not to say the client is wrong, per se, but simply that the designs we originally worked up weren’t up-to-snuff for the client’s particular needs while appealing to the TLF gang from a purely visual point-of-view.

Here’s a case in point – the logo design for One Touch, a beauty supply company, where the concept design (above) was ultimately rejected for a more ‘traditional’ concept (below). In my humble opinion, the design above has more style and character – a retro-flavored workup that attempted to emulate the ‘beauty parlors’ of days gone by (ironically, the very reasons that the design was deep-sixed). I love the combined font work (Bounce), the slight ‘gel’ treatment and shield visual that helps tie the design together.

You’d be amazed at the tens of thousands of concepts and ideas that, for one reason or another, never made the light of day and are collecting digital dust on our studio network (you can download some of our rejected Morgue Files as free logos here. Due to repeated demand, we’ll also be making some of our unused designs available for purchase in the upcoming months as part of a new ’stock design’ service).
