Yeah, yeah, I know. Statistics reveal that a vast majority of New Years’ resolutions are doomed to failure. I’ve broken more than my share over the years, but maybe this lot will be different. First time I’ve made my resolutions public, and having to do with building up our humble logo design shop, maybe – just maybe – we’ll be a little more successful with our 2009 list. Without further ado, here’s the things we hope to trot out at The Logo Factory as we weave our way through the year.
1) New logo design video. Or videos. Our last version, labeled Logopalooza 2008, became instantly dated at 12.01 this morning. Have to replace that with a bunch of new logo examples and case studies. That will need a new music track as well. Probably take us a month and a bit, so look for a new video around February. Videos have a fairly long shelf life, so we’ll release a few of these over the year, without losing our minds trying to ‘crank ‘em out’.
2) More logo podcasts. We started this off fairly strong in 2008, but a personal crisis torpedoed the series from getting much attention throughout the year. It’s not that we don’t have the material developed – we do – it’s just that family matters monopolized most of my extra time in the last half of the year. We’re planning a podcast per week, but realistically we’ll probably end up with bi-weekly releases. Want to tie them into online support material too – tutorials, links and PDFs.
3) The Logo Factory gets a new look. A few months back we asked people if we should change our logo. Even offered up the new version. Consensus was change (as much as I’m resistant) so it looks like we’ll be changing the world famous TLF factory house (been with us since 1996) over the next year. That’s going to require a site build and a re-do of all our collateral material so that probably won’t happen any faster than about six months from now. Accordingly, look for a completely revamped website, blog and online presence in the last half of 2009.
4) New pricing structure. In this economic climate, and factoring in the intense competition, we’re going to introduce some new logo design packages and options, probably in conjunction with our new site rebuild. We’re not promising $50 logos – can’t do that without resorting to outsourcing to other countries or setting up logo design contests ala our competitors – but we’ll have decent pricing for smaller cash-strapped businesses.
5) Launch another volume of our free logo book – Logopalooza. This time around, we’re going to ‘de-brand’ the tome and make it open to any designers who think their stuff is up to scratch. The first volume of Logopalooza was downloaded over 50,000 times before we yanked it, and volume 2 looks like it will score even higher, so it’s a decent way for logo designers to promote themselves. Look for an announcement on Logopalooza 3 sometime in January 2009.
6) Take a long, hard, serious look at the logo design industry, continuing in the vein of our logo design review and search engine articles. Going to be hard hitting stuff and may open some eyes about what’s really going on in the online logo design business, as well as give designers hoping to market themselves on the internet some idea of what they’re up against, and how they can deal with it.
7) Update our logo design portfolio.
Make our Daily Logo, well, daily. We’ve been struggling with our logo of the day feature since we came up with it back in 2003. Maybe in 2009, the Daily Logo will mean just that.
9) Finally finish that logo design book that I’ve been writing for, oh, a hundred years or so.
10) Finally figure out what to do with our website logodesign.net. This domain screams out network, so that’s along the lines we’re thinking. Any ideas? Let us know.
