When World Blackjack Champion Ken Einiger wanted to develop some merchandising and marketing material (including a presentation folder – featured below and the main reason for this repair project), like many clients he figured the logo that he’d be using for years would suffice. Trouble was, the image he was using was cobbled together from various photographs, was in bitmap format and in a resolution that was far too low for use in traditional printing, let alone the large sizes that were required by the presentation folder ideas being kicked around. In order to complete the presentation folder project to the client’s satisfaction, we’d need access an unlimited resolution version – one that we could use as a large image size, a format that had a transparent background, and one that we could manipulate the colors of. Not a problem – our designers simply repaired Einiger’s logo, turning it into .EPS vector art that could be used to print anything.

The first matter at hand was the watch fob, a photographic image to which some typography and poker symbols had been added. Trouble is, the watch also featured a reflection which had been neglected in the original design. Our designers simply created a new watch fob from the ground up, replacing the typography with outline fonts, and creating an accurate reflection which now made sense (see main image above). We removed a lot of the incidental detail and created a pared down color palette which we could use across the advertising material we’d later create.

Next up was the two playing cards featured in the logo, also from photography and useless for any real art and marketing development. To repair these two cards, our designers performed a straight bitmap to vector art conversion – hand traced for accuracy – the bitmap and vector versions are featured above. After the watch fob and cards were completed, our designers cleaned up the font work into outline fonts, the result of which is featured below.

All in all, the repaired version is an accurate representation of the original, with the benefit of now being in vector format. That allows us to do all sorts of wonderful graphic design work – including designing Ken Einiger’s presentation folders, two of which are featured below.
