Graphic design case study - Toronto based GTA Exotics.
Toronto based GTA Exotics rent specialty high-end sports cars and other vehicles and wanted a new graphic design for their rapidly expanding business. According to their initial project brief, the client wanted a badge or 'shield' logo (similar to to logos featured on many of their high-end automobiles). High visibility and legibility were a primary concern - the GTA location is a few hundred yards away from the the extremely busy Toronto-bound 401 highway, so the logo needed to be bold and simple enough to be seen and absorbed by people in cars as they speeded by. As that represents a potential market of 100s of thousands of viewers per day, this was certainly not something to be overlooked. With these two parameters in mind TLF designers set about rendering quasi-technical illustrations of two of the more 'exotic' cards in GTA's stable - a Lamborghini Countach and a Dodge Viper. Using photo reference supplied by the client, our staff worked up two initial renderings (above, right). Whenever using recognizable icons like these, accuracy is always an issue - automobile aficionados can be sticklers for detail - while it's equally important to keep any illustrations simple enough to be 'logo friendly'. As with all our logos, our designers created the illustrations in Vector based artwork, so that the design could be scalable, as well as plotter friendly for vinyl signage and automobile wrappers.
After creating two graphic versions of the requested cars, our designers then built the required shield using typography that was reminiscent of the automobiles portrayed. Alas, after several brainstorm sessions, both versions were ultimately scrapped as being too 'specific' . The client felt it was important to emphasize that they had a wide range of automobiles available, so the cars were scrapped completely for a more 'generic', yet ultimately more adaptable graphic & approach. As there were plans on the table to expand the business beyond Toronto, it was decided to use a Canadian Maple Leaf - as a nod to the company's proud heritage. After a few quick rounds of revisions, we ended up with the Toronto Exotics version you see here. |

Developing your company 'brand' and design 'look and feel'.
Once your grapic design or logo is completed, you'll need to begin creating your new 'look and feel' - the consistent imaging that will identify any material, products, marketing and advertising that represents your company. Your 'look and feel' is made up of consistent corporate colors, fonts, design treatments, graphic elements and themes - all of which work in harmony on letterhead, stationery, business cards, flash logo design and more to enhance your image of professionalism and attention to every possible detail.
It is the continued application of that graphic design theme on your marketing material that solidifies your company 'look-and-feel' - the overall image that sets you apart in this increasingly cluttered marketplace. Every aspect of your business must have this 'look-and-feel' in order to create a recognizable theme that illustrates your attention to detail. Graphic harmony in all your business materials - from traditional to electronic - creates a sense of order, and more importantly, true professionalism.
