Who Needs A Logo?
Anybody can create a business without a logo. In theory, anyone can toil away, providing their client base with the best in service and/or products - relying on word of mouth to expand. So, in the absolute purest sense - nobody 'needs' a logo. On the otherhand, companies, countries and even religions have 'em. So do you if you're trying to launch a new company, product or service...
What Makes a Great Logo Great?
What makes a logo great? Well, if that ain’t the question to end it all - “what makes a great brand logo”? Despite having been privy to the creation of thousands of logos it’s still a difficult question for even the designers at the shop. Naturally, we know a good logo when we see it. But what about a litmus test for what makes a good logo and on the flip side, a bad one?
Logotypes
While there are an infinite number of variables that are possible with any logo design project, our designers have found that most logo design 'treatments' will fall into four categories; logo fonts, icon design, graphic design logo or Illustrations. While these categories are certainly not absolute, and many logos have the features of several types, this is a fairly accurate overview for those new to the logo design process.
Choosing a Graphic Designer
Picking the best for your project. There are literally thousands of graphic design companies and individuals that have hung their shingles out as a logo designer. Some are good, some are not-so-good, and others are simply NOT who they profess to be. He's some tips that will assist you in selecting your new design firm.
Discount Logo Design
Realities and drawbacks. Discount, or even free logos can usually suffice for someone who's not terribly serious about business (or doesn't plan to be around for a while). But you should be aware, that cheapo logo design can end up costing you. Big time!
Logo Templates
A logo is supposed to be original. Capital ‘C’ custom. Or you can pick a so-called pre-made clip art logo, a template, where you select an existing icon, add your company name and you’re all set. All for pennies on the dollar. We look at this new web trend in this thought-provoking article. Heck, we'll even tell you about the time we bought one of our own designs as a template logos.
Logo Design Contest
Logo contests, popular on many web sites, feature would-be clients (claiming to be short on funds) who open a project to a gaggle of freelancers who then 'compete' against each other in order to win the gig. So what about the logos presented as part of this contest? How can you guarantee that they're original? Well, you can't..
Online Logo Design
Insider look at the online logo design industry. You've run a search on Google or similar engine, and have come up with a bevy of blinking, flashing online logo design web sites, all promising seemingly impossible feats in their 'come hither' sales pitches. It's as if 'logo designers' on the web have developed an entire new language in order to lure visitors to purchase their goods and services. And as competition has heated up, so has the rhetoric involved in the marketing of graphic design services via the web...
Changing Your Current Logo - Risks and Rewards
It happens many times. You take a look at your logo and it doesn't have the same oomph that it did a few years ago. It looks a little tired. Or maybe it was created under a time (or budget) crunch that precluded a complete or thorough work up. Bottom line - you're sick and tired of your logo and want to change it. Can this be done? Certainly. Are there risks involved? Absolutely. Do we recommend changing your logo design in mid-stride? Well, yes. And no...
Update your company logo - Give it an Upgrade
Your logo lost its sheen? Getting a little 'long in the tooth'? That's okay. You may not have to have a massive logo overhaul - maybe it's just time for an upgrade. You won't have to worry about building new customer awareness and they'll probably like the fact that you've breathed new life into you company image.
Clip Art
Using any clip art as your brand is an exercise in futility and runs contrary to the entire point of having a logo. You need a logo that 's exclusive to your company, product or service, not a generic mark that's in use by dozens of other people or can be copied by other companies. Including your competition.
Logo Software
We often get asked by designers and those interested in do it yourself logo design, what logo software we use at the 'shop'. So we decided to put together a 'what's-what' list of the design, animation and management software we use in the day to day operation of The Logo Factory.
