Gorilla Logo – Upbeat Online Entertainment Magazine.

Behind the Design Scenes: Upbeat Online saw themselves as a fairly edgy online entertainment magazine so when the client approached The Logo Factory they already had a fairly well-defined concept of the corporate identity logo they were after. Namely a highly illustrative logo based on that Hollywood icon – the King Kong gorilla (though this brand was designed long before Peter Jackson’s 2005 opus and was based on the original BW masterpiece) while eschewing the typical company logo. While this is technically a cartoon logo, it is in the execution that the logo became a fully rendered illustration, complete with buzzing biplanes at which the giant gorilla is swatting with a magazine (ah-ha – finally, the ‘tie in’ with the magazine). A perennial favorite for visitors (and TLF design staff) the Upbeat logo requires four color printing to reproduce accurately (see this custom presentation folder design using this artwork) but our designers also worked up a ‘sepia tone’ spot color version that can be reproduced using one or two colors to minimize reproduction costs on less ‘important’ corporate marketing material. Funny enough, this wasn’t the only monkey logo that we’ve created over the life span of our studio – See the similarly themed Chimpanzee Species Survival Plan Zoo logos (for a somber, illustrative approach) and The Ugly Monkey Nightclub for others.
