Food logos – Humdinger Kettle Korn Snacks Bird design.

About: A logo for a snack food product, packaging and marketing. When is a cartoon or whimsical logo called for? Hard to say really. Well, these types of logos can be appropriate for just about every business or industry situation (except when a light-hearted approach would be completely inappropriate – certain medical themed logos for example. It all depends on the kind of image that you want your company, business or product to convey. There are times when our designers would advise clients against using cartoon logos (see here for a cartoon logo case study), but in the case of Humdinger (a snack food and candy company) a cartoon character of a crow was definitely called for because a) it was to be the company mascot and b) the product tag line was “something to crow about”. The ‘crow’ character developed for Humdinger was also to be used in various situations and themes (Valentine’s Day, Christmas, etc) as an illustration used in marketing materials, so it needed to be fully developed (rather than just illustrated for use in the logo featured in this sample). A bird logo like this is not as easy as it seems – it takes a fairly skilled designer to develop the character and then incorporate it into a logo, along with text, company name and tag line. As with all our logo samples, this design is a vector based logo, making it highly adaptable to various uses and reproduction methods.
