When we first started developing Flash logo animations and videos, some of our more ambitious projects required sound and music files. Snipping a track from our favorite CD was out of the question (copyright and all that) and free stuff lying about the Internet just didn’t cut it. Being a creative lot, we figured we could do better. That led to some musical experimentation by
some of the musically inclined designers on on staff, resulting in some pretty decent material we could add to Flash and animations and movies. See our logo design demo reel for some of this music in use.
Like everything at The Logo Factory®, this musical experiment needed a ‘brand’ and a logo. Thus The Vox Underground was born (read about the VU winged heart tattoo over on The Daily Logo). Not exactly Grammy awarding material just yet, but pretty nifty nonetheless. Here’s a few tracks that we’ve been tinkering with..
Upbeat track featuring a range of synthesizers, drum machines and verbal samples. Originally developed as a background track for our podcast series, Particle Velocity was recorded in the fall of 2007.
File size: 5.49 MB. Format: .MP3
Features choir track, live acoustic and electric guitar as well as sampled orchestral backing. Atmospheric and moody sound doesn’t really lend itself to an up-beat visual presentation but worth a listen nonetheless.
File size: 4.15 MB. Format: .MP3
A fairly raucous track (probably better to turn the sound system down a bit). Originally put together a few years ago, just recently got around to mixing it into a more playable format. Contains samples, drum computers, live keyboards and guitar.
File size: 4.1 MB. Format: .MP3
Uplifitng little track weighs in a just over 3 minutes. Created entirely with MIDI driven instruments and drum sequencers. ‘ARP’d keyboard adds a little bit of European flair.
File size: 3 MB. Format: .MP3
Funky little track features some Asian instrumentation, live drums, keyboards and a few home-made samples pinched from the TV. Additional Korg keyboard work and audio manipulation using the Reason Scream sequencer. This is the track for our first logo design video. File size: 4.7 MB. Format: .MP3
The official soundtrack to our Logopalooza podcasts. Latin themed background music that was designed to ‘fit’ with the overall Logopalooza brand, theme and atmosphere. Created almost entirely with samples and drum sequencers. Little guitar thrown in for good measure. A little ‘light’ in the volume – was alway designed to be a background piece. File size: 2.32 MB. Format: .MP3
Compositions are created using Reason sequencers, Ableton’s Live! mixing, and Cubase. Operating system is an old Apple G5 running OS X. Keyboards by Korg. Audio interface by Audiophile. Guitars by Gibson. Tracks available on this page are not licensed for commercial use and are for personal use only. Copyright Steve Douglas. All rights reserved.
