horizons church logo

Church logos often involve some fairly typical imagery. Crosses, doves, sunsets and groups of people holding hands. For this project, our designers used the idea of navigating horizons to develop a unique design.

Client:

Horizons Church

About:

A logo for a newly established church. The client wanted to avoid typical church logo imagery such as crosses, doves, landscape illustrations and sunsets. “We live in a time of wide open possibilities and almost limitless choices. We are appealing to people who ask the question, what are we going to do with it? We are pushing the edges of what most people think of when they think of a church.”

Project notes:

Conceived as a new ministry to attract people who are not a part of any faith based community, Horizons wanted their logo to appeal to a younger (25-40) age democratic and were determined that their logo not look “churchy.” While some traditional Christian imagery is graphically sound, the client didn’t want their new logo to look traditional, sappy, or sentimental.

The pastor of Horizons put it best on the initial logo design brief – “Since we’re aiming for a younger, nontraditional crowd, we think the logo should have an overall cutting-edge feel to it. We also think the keywords of our tag line are descriptive: passion, evoking emotion; pursuing, implying journey, maybe even adventure in discovering the meaning in life. We know that this may be the hardest part of the logo design process, but we would like it to convey the paradox of an ancient-modern faith. We see the horizon as a journey to a wide-open future of possibilities, but it is in knowing the past that our future paths are guided.”

Flash animation:

In keeping with their embracing of modern technology, Horizons Church also contracted The Logo Factory® to create a flash logo animation that could be featured on their website. In order to develop this movie, our designers first had to turn to spheres and globes into 3D objects which could be spun around the earth graphic elements. The compass portion of the animation only used a few graphic ‘symbols’ in order to keep the file size as small as possible. Due to the extensive time involved in creating an animation of this nature, a similar work would only be available through our advanced Flash pricing.
