About:

Logo design for Yoga Mama Me, a website and blog devoted to new mothers and dealing with the stresses of their new life.

Project notes:

This logo was developed with a removable strapline, and with design elements that can be used together, or separately, depending on the space and aspect ratio available. For instance, when the logo is used on a blog or website header, the characters and typography can be placed beside each other to maximize the size it can be used. For maximum adaptability, it’s always advisable that a logo can be ‘broken apart’ and icons, company names and straplines can stand alone graphically (more logo design tips here). Here’s the complete logo with strapline intact:

Developed in a linear illustrative style, the logo can be reproduced across a wide range of media despite its relative complexity. Considering its feminine appeal, we think it’s worthwhile pointing out that the logo was actually designed by a burly bloke – Steve R – at the shop, illustrating, we think, our designers’ wide range of styles and skill sets. You can view the logo in use at the Yoga Mama Me website. To tell you a little more about the project, we’re going to take the lazy route and nick a little biographical information from the site.

After practicing and teaching yoga for several years (she taught at YogaWorks on Larchmont (formerly the Center for Yoga) and YMI Yoga in Los Angeles, Omadawn in Long Beach, and several studios in St. Louis), Melissa Cole Essig became a YogaMama in December 2006. Nine months later, she found herself wondering when she got to be more than just a YogaMama — when she got to be a YogaMamaMe. In March 2008, she began blogging about how being a mother, while great and all, was making her lose her mindfulness. She started this website in June 2008 to create a community of like-minded moms who are willing to laugh as they search for mindfulness in motherhood.

Melissa’s essays have appeared in Newsweek and The Long Beach Press-Telegram. Her unpublished novel, Long Beach Baby, was named a semi-finalist in the Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award contest. She is currently working on YogaMamaMe: How to Be Mindful When Your Mind Is on Your Baby.

Having read the back story, we think you’ll agree that the design works extremely well in context and despite its almost cartoon logo quality and whimsical style, is a fairly decent professional logo design under which to market the website and its various offshoot projects.

Besides, it’s gotta be the cutest logo you’ve seen in a while..
