Logo Brief: This interesting little project for Canadian health food company, For Goodness Sakes Inc. located in the Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, hit our design studio last summer. The company’s’ business model sees it providing healthy nutrition products to families via a broad selection of organic and all natural health food snacks.

This was one of those design projects that stopped and started over a few months worth of concepts, preliminary designs and back-to-the-drawing board sessions. During the logo design process, the name of the product line was changed no less than three times. Upon original project submission, the product line, and subsequent logo, was to feature the deliberately euphemistic Eat Me Raw. A risky proposition to be sure. After a lot of feedback and discussions with our logo designers, and from vendors and end use customers, it was decided that the name was simply too risque for any serious branding and marketing. We tossed around a few various names – Rawsome was a close second – but we eventually settled down on Health Nut, a more typical logo and brand for the healthy food and organic health food store market.

The initial idea for the logo itself, a zany off-the-wall approach was now re-purposed for the new name. The logo itself was developed as a linear black and white design. It had to reproduce on a wide range of branding and advertising material, including the decidedly low-tech printing on foil health bar wrappers. Not that the lack of color meant that the logo was to be boring. Far from it. When we set about creating the product packaging, our design team were able to stretch their creative muscles, using bold full color graphics and artwork (above).
