Deer Logos – Five Point Utility Power Company.
Behind the Design Scenes: Five Point Utility Development is an example of a corporate identity that is built around an iconic logo – in this case a deer (or, more accurately, a buck) – that is also reflected in the company’s name itself. Five Point Utility Development wanted a ‘five point’ buck (count them – there are five) to represent their company – also named after the five boroughs served. During the logo design process of this project, our designers created a linear illustration of the deer, which through a series of simplification steps, became the icon shown here. A skillful iconic representation of anything is difficult – creating an animal or other recognizable image takes a fairly skilled designer to pull off. The deer in the icon was then mated with a complementary font treatment and tag line. With any corporate logo, we often advise clients that ‘less is more’ and this is an excellent illustration of that concept. For more animal themed logos see the Chimpanzee Species Survival zoo logo, The beaver mascot for Buena Vista University and the dolphin based logo for Kitchen’s Ice Cream.
