Complex logo repair project
Over the years, logos get re-sized, reformatted, converted to bitmaps and resized again. Not a problem if you have a vector version to return to for a high-quality 'source' image. If you don't have a vector version of your logo, there will come a time when you'll need one, and all you have on file is a bitmapped, pixelated mess that's completely unusable for the application you've planned. Here's one such example - a logo for Island Station that over the years had lost all the detail from the original (created using a metal plaque for reference). When repairing this logo, our designers had to 'guess' at a lot of the missing detail, and render new artwork using their illustrative skills.
The close up image (above) shows the amount of detail that had been lost (left) and how our designers recreated the design to a pristine version that's ready for any application (right). There are online vector art generators (as well as Adobe Illustrator's live 'Live Trace' function which are adequate for simple logos and 'quick and dirty' solutions, but for professional results complex logos almost always require recreation by hand).
Another advantage of having vector based artwork - especially of a highly illustrative logo like this - is the ability to take bits and pieces of the design for use as graphic accents on brochures, websites and other marketing material. For all intents and purposes, this is impossible of you only have access to a bitmap version of your logo. See here for more information on logo repair services. |
